I liked this book. That being said, it took me a while to read it. I didn’t like the pacing in many places. It started strongly with Daniel Waterhouse, Newton, and the Royal Society but got bogged down near the end of the first section.

The next part was my favorite: Jack Shaftoe and Eliza. The dynamic between the two characters was great and I loved their interactions. Toward the end of this section they started having more parts of the story take place with these characters in separate places and it was never good until they were together. This section ended badly and left me depressed.

The last section was alright, mostly focusing on Eliza, Daniel and Leibnitz. Some of the chapters are written as letters to and from the various characters and some of these we tedious.

It took me a long time to read this book. But I did enjoy it, just not as much as Neal Stephenson’s other books.
